A free calorie and macro calculator for chicken. Pick a common cut and cooking method, or search any chicken dish in our database, enter your real portion in grams, and get real calories, protein, carbs and fat scaled to that exact amount.
Chicken Breast vs Thigh, and Why Cooking Method Matters
A plain, boneless, skinless chicken breast is one of the leanest, highest-protein foods around, typically around 165 kcal and 31g of protein per 100g when boiled or grilled with nothing added. Thigh meat, especially with the skin on, carries more fat, so the same weight of thigh usually runs higher in calories, even before cooking method is factored in.
Frying rather than boiling, grilling or baking adds calories from the oil and any coating or breading, sometimes significantly increasing the fat content of the exact same cut. That's why this calculator lets you pick the real cut and cooking method rather than giving one single ‘chicken’ number.
How This Calculator Works
Pick one of the six common presets (Boiled Breast, Grilled Breast, Baked Thigh, Fried Thigh, Roast Chicken, Chicken Tenders), or search for any chicken dish using the same live search that powers our main food database, chicken katsu and chicken kiev both work. Enter your real portion size in grams rather than an assumed serving, and the calculator scales calories, protein, carbs and fat to that exact amount, pulled live from our own 98,223+ UK food database.
Fitting Chicken Into a Protein or Macro Target
Chicken, especially boiled or grilled breast, is one of the most efficient ways to hit a protein target without adding much extra fat or carbs. If you don't yet know your own daily protein or macro target, our Protein Calculator and Macro Calculator work that out first, then use this tool to see exactly how a specific chicken portion fits into it.
Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate are the calorie and macro numbers?
They're pulled live from our own UK food database (98,223+ foods), the same data used across the rest of the site, scaled exactly to the portion size you enter.
Why does chicken breast have fewer calories than thigh?
Breast meat is naturally leaner. Thigh meat, and especially the skin, carries more fat, so the same weight of thigh runs higher in calories even before cooking method is factored in.
Does cooking method really make a big difference?
Yes. Frying adds calories from the oil and any coating, while boiling, grilling and baking add little to nothing extra. The same cut can vary significantly in calories depending on how it's cooked.
Can I search for a specific chicken dish, like chicken katsu or chicken kiev?
Yes. Type it into the search box, the calculator searches our full food database, not just the six quick presets.
Is this the same database used across the rest of the site?
Yes, it's the same real UK food database that powers food search and the main calorie calculator, not a separate or smaller dataset.
